A new exhibition of watercolour paintings of mid 20th century beach houses along the Qld southern coast line. They are hanging on a thin thread and I thought they are worth documenting. So I took off with my camera last year and captured them. The resulting watercolours are mostly a realistic representation but as the title indicates, they've seen better days and the paintings show subtle marks of decay and a sense of emptiness. Lets face it beach houses are empty most of the year.
They are being pulled down and new huge mansions are built on small blocks of land. These holiday homes have a special place in the Australian collective consciousness.
