A house of cards seemed perfect for what I want to say about the fragility of the house and our environment, its unstable and hard to control. The entire structure can easily collapse by just removing one element. What looks dependable and solid one moment stumbles and collapses in an instant. A house of cards however is also an imaginary space, something we build in our dreams, it takes great ambition or just plain naivety to come up with a big scheme and no real solid foundation.
The wallpaper adds another element and references the home, the cosy inside of the home turned inside out.
Bought a number of rolls of 1970's wallpaper from the Camberwell market (an endless source of inspiration and great art materials) During this year I want to use it in a various sculptural projects.
Also decided to recycle some older materials from an earlier installation, which is currently stored under the house and if not used in the next weeks, I have been threatened that it will go out to hard rubbish collection.
